Chapter 1.1- A Restless Night

21 Jun

This is Daniel Yu.

It’s the middle of the night, and he’s all alone.

When everyone started getting sick, Daniel did what any mediocre college student on summer break would do. He hid out in his mom’s basement and played video games. That is, until the power cut out. Daniel took that as a brilliant excuse to eat all the ice cream he could before it melted. That was how Daniel spent the first day.

The next morning, the power was still out. Daniel lounged in bed all morning to prolong the inevitable need to find non-electronic entertainment. Finally, he went upstairs to ask his mom what was going on.

What he saw in the kitchen upstairs made him run, and he didn’t stop running until his car ran out of gas.

It was an inconvenient spot to be stuck, that was for sure. He found himself in some sleepy little community called Moonlight Falls.

Only perhaps it wasn’t sleepy enough.

When Daniel had fled from the scene in his mother’s kitchen, he hadn’t thought to bring supplies. In fact, all he had in the trunk of his now useless car was an old orange sleeping bag left over from a camping trip with some friends.

Daniel’s exhaustion had hit him, but he knew this wasn’t the time to go exploring for a good place to nap.

He pulled out his sleeping bag and settled down, hoping the car would hide him.

For a long time he laid there with eyes open, ready to bolt.

Finally, sleep took him.

But danger was never very far away.

This post is obviously super short. I  have the next four written though, so it’s all good.

Oh wow. Reddit and Louise (a.k.a. notjustabook) actually brought me here, and I must admit this is a very intriguing start! I think I’m going to like this one!

I love how Daniel’s quirks already. How he played video games through it all, how he ate the ice cream… I can only imagine the scene that drove him out of his mother’s house, but yeah… I’m looking forward to at some point rooting for this seeming loser/underdog.

Haha! This is awesome! You have actually made my day…looking forward to reading more. My story is also set in Moonlight falls, it’s a detective drama if you fancy having a read.
